Center Parcs has long been a pioneer in the concept of holiday parks, creating destinations that bring families closer to nature while offering comfort and convenience. What began near Reuver as a simple idea, combining natural surroundings with modern amenities, has grown into a European network that enchants guests with a unique mix of outdoor activities, indoor entertainment, and relaxing accommodations.

To keep its parks attractive and functional, Center Parcs continuously invests in renovations. These projects include updates to swimming pools, spas, restaurants, and, crucially, the iconic domes that define so many of its resorts.

Iconic domes that define the Center Parcs experience

One of the most recognizable features of Center Parcs is the subtropical swimming paradise, housed beneath a spectacular dome. These impressive structures allow guests to swim and relax all year round, enjoying natural daylight and views of the sky, even during the coldest months. However, maintaining both the performance and appearance of these domes over time requires expertise and innovation.

Dome renovation: Bringing light, comfort and efficiency

VELUX Commercial collaborated with Center Parcs on dome renovation projects at five locations in the Netherlands, Belgium and France. The goal was not only to replace outdated glazing but also to implement meaningful improvements using innovative technology:

1. Optimal daylight and protection

The new glazing offers excellent light transmission while protecting guests from excessive UV exposure. This ensures bright, comfortable conditions inside the domes.

2. Strength and stability

The updated skylights are structurally reinforced and designed to withstand weather, wind, snow and other loads, extending the domes' lifespan.

3. Energy efficiency

Our modern daylight solutions improve insulation and reduce energy consumption, in line with sustainable building principles.

4. Aesthetic upgrades

The new domes give the buildings a fresh, welcoming appearance.

Technological innovation: Tailored daylight solutions

Replacing domes of this scale and complexity required custom-made solutions. VELUX Commercial developed prefabricated glazing systems using a stick system, ideal for renovations, as they can be designed precisely to fit the existing roof openings.

Outdated materials were also replaced with lighter, more durable components:

  • Polycarbonate glazing panels instead of glass
  • Aluminum frames instead of wood

These choices resulted in a lighter, more efficient construction that is easier to assemble and maintain.

Smarter installation methods

Initial renovation projects were time-consuming, with everything built directly on the roof. Learning from this, the team adopted a smarter approach by assembling the dome structures on the parking lot and lifting them into place in one piece. This significantly reduced time spent on the roof and helped meet tight deadlines, without compromising safety or quality.

By upgrading Center Parcs’ iconic domes, VELUX Commercial helps preserve what guests value most about these destinations: a strong connection to nature, abundant daylight and a welcoming atmosphere. Thanks to these daylight solutions, these unique spaces will remain vibrant, sustainable and appealing, now and in the future.
