Image optimisation

Here is what you need to know about images in order to make sure they are optimised for our websites.

Why is image optimisation important?

Image optimisation is essential to improve page load speed, boost SEO ranking and improve overall user experience of our websites. Therefore, we must make sure that:

• Image names make sense
• All images have alt texts
• The correct keywords are used
• The size of images are reduced

Please note: In order to publish an image on our websites, please provide the Content Hub ID number and alt text. 

Alt text

Alt text is a short description of an image that appears when the image fail to load in a page. Describe the picture and keep it (relatively) short. If it makes sense, include a keyword in the alt text.

Make sure to provide alt text in English and the local language. We need the alt text in both languages in order to upload the image correctly to the media library in Sitecore and the local website. 

Image names

Correct naming of images help search engines understand what is in the image. Name your image with a short descriptive text and try to include a keyword related to the image's motive + Content Hub ID number. 

Please note:

• File names should always be written in lowercase
• Use "hyphen" (-) to separate individual words in the file names. Please don't use "_" to sperate words as Google, in this case, will see the file name as one single word
• Always avoid special characters (a-z only and 0-9)

Tip: How to find Content Hub ID

Here is a quick guide on how to find the Content Hub ID of an image on our websites.

1. Navigate to the image and right click to 'save image as'

2. Copy the number at the end of the file name

3. Open Content Hub in your browser and paste the number in the search bar to search for the image. The image will now appear in the search results
