  • Audio/music
VELUX Audio Branding/Signature music has been used since 2012 - but we will NOT use it anymore in VELUX Commercial.
It is up to the agency to choose the right "underlay" music - if music is needed in the video.
  • Intro - Beginning video

    You only have three seconds!

The first impression of the video determines whether users bother to watch the video or not - that's why it's the most crucial part.
The introduction should enable the user to understand what they see and what is the value, otherwise, they will navigate elsewhere.

    Logo

If the video is produced for our website, there is no need for a logo.
If the video is to be shown elsewhere, it should always start with a smaller logo in the upper right corner.

    Logo in video
Logo remains visible as long as the movie title is readable and visible - then it is removed.

    Supers in the intro

Video Supers can be a very effective way to make sure the user sees your key messages.

For those unfamiliar with video terminology, a Video Super is any text or graphic that appears on the screen during a video presentation.

See the examples on the right.

    Fonts

    We use the following fonts:

    • VeluxGothic Regular for plain text
    • VeluxGothic Black to highlight single words

    Backgrounds

    The background must be semi-transparent:

    • White
    • VELUX Commercial Blue #a9cae5
    • VELUX Commercial Dark blue, #476996

    Minimum 75-85% depending on background.

    Animation

For example, if you have to produce a slightly more expensive film such as a case study - it is also allowed to use animations, e.g. animated text or background.

See the examples on the right.

Another way you can do it is by the white beams coming in from the left or right.

Name and title signs must fade on and off.

  • Supers

For those unfamiliar with video terminology, a video super is any text or graphic that appears on the screen during a video presentation.

Supers can be a very effective way to ensure the user sees your key messages. . It's a good idea to use them as the title of your video, where you need to catch the user's attention quickly

You can also use supers instead of subtitles if you only need to highlight individual "keywords" in the movie. But production becomes expensive, especially with many languages.

See examples of supers in the" Intro - Beginning Video" tab.

    White text WITHOUT background bar

If the background is dark enough to carry a white font without a background bar, this is also an option you can choose.

    Fonts we use:

    • VeluxGothic Regular for plain text
    • VeluxGothic Black to highlight single words.
  • Subtitles
    • All videos must have subtitles.
    • Subtitles make the video easier to consume.
    • There must be a high contrast between text and background.
    • Subtitles should appear well on both light and dark background at the same time.
    • Use a large enough text size.
The small text makes subtitles much harder to read. A user needs more time and concentration to read them - and time is the least digital reader has. Large clear text, on the other hand, is easy to read at speed.
    • Allow enough reading time for each subtitle
    • Avoid presenting too much text on the screen at once

    Visual appearance of subtitles

Subtitles are always white and placed on a black semi-transparent background, which is at least 75-85% depending on the background - see below.

Use a clear, easily readable font

The Roboto font is a good option. It's one of the most widely used fonts across device types and screen sizes. On YouTube, Roboto Medium is the default font for subtitles. As the eye is so used to this font, it is quick and easy to read. The goal of subtitles is to make the content easier to understand, thus, Roboto is a good option.
Other fonts could be Tahoma or Calibri.

  • Hardcoded subtitles vs. SRT files

    Hardcoded subtitles on film

Best for fairs, and websites (not recommended for social media)

Overall best practice, but expensive. Use hard coding if sound is off, so you are sure the viewer gets the subtitles.

    Pro

    • Identical expression, as the subtitles are "glued" to the film (across platforms)
    • Subtitles are always shown, even with the sound on
    • It is a significant advantage on social media if subtitles are another language than the speaker

    Cons

    • Expensive, particular with many languages
    • Not flexible and responsive as the size of the subtitles is fixed
    • It primarily looks nice for the format it is developed for
    • Often developed for desktop, then unreadable for mobile or fairs

    SRT files

Best for social media and websites

    Pro

    • Flexible size of subtitles as it fits the device used
    • Language of subtitles can change based on IP address (if selected)
    • Viewers device will determine which format is shown, but some devices and platforms also give the viewer a possibility to choose some features, e.g. large contrast text, coloured text, etc.)

    Cons

    • No influence on font and font size
    • No influence on how large the text is behind the font
    • The subtitles are only shown when the sound is off (depends on viewers settings)
  • Outro - end of video
Wipe down from right to left.

Anthracite gray color at bottom #373737 or R54, G54, B54
    Logo and call-to-action appear.
    Call-to-action: VeluxGothic Regular

When the bottom is completely clean, our tagline "Daylight and ventilation solutions for industrial, commercial and public buildings" animates on.
Our tagline is always written in the local language.

    Font Tagline: VeluxGothic Bold

NOTE: We do NOT use VELUX signature music anymore, just as we do not use "Bringing light to life" as an outro for our videos in VELUX Commercial.
