A new event venue in Trier’s old quarter
A former textile dye-works from the 1950s has been converted into an event and conference venue and features plenty of natural light.
Preserving the original industrial character of the building was an essential part of the specification. The structural design of the original reinforced concrete barrel roof construction, which is only 12 cm thick, was ahead of its time. Preserving the roof was made possible by transverse tensioning cables that were not to be disturbed during the refurbishment.
A VELUX Ridgelight, which spans over 20 meters long, was installed in the middle of the existing barrel roof, creating a beautiful, well-lit space.
The ridgelight ensures that the sun's rays travel along the walls and floor with an interesting shadow pattern.
Installation of the VELUX Ridgelight solution took 14 days.
The former textile dye works has become the attractive location "Alte Färberei". In a space with an area of 240 m², it is now a great venue for celebrations and receptions.
