Nørrebro Library - library recreates rooflights in a disused tram depot to let the sky in
In a fusion of community recreation in Copenhagen's Nørrebro district, the local library has moved into a disused tram depot. In its day, the depot was topped by ridgelights, and these have now been recreated with respect for the building's original architecture. The contemporary version from VELUX Commercial also offers the option of adjusting the daylighting using blinds and creating a pleasant indoor climate by means of natural ventilation.
The contractor chose prefabricated VELUX modular skylights due to their competitive pricing and speed of installation.
- It took three men a single day to install the modular skylight.
- The modular skylight consists of 22 fixed and 6 opening modules, which also act as smoke vents in the event of fire. There are also remote-controlled white roller blinds.
- Local library-goers are delighted to spend time in this space, where many of them read and study for hours.
