The facility makes use of natural daylight through innovative skylights, improving the comfort of learning and the energy efficiency of the building
Primary School No. 12 at Strzałowa Street in Toruń is a modern educational facility, built to the highest architectural and environmental standards. In just 18 months, a complex of buildings was constructed, including not only a school and kindergarten, but also an innovative media centre which, as a branch of Książnica Kopernikańska, will serve the cultural development of the left bank of Toruń. The school operates according to the STEAM model, combining science, technology, art and digitisation, allowing students to acquire knowledge in an innovative way through experience and experimentation.
The City of Toruń is committed to the health and well-being of students and school staff, investing in modern educational facilities that foster a comfortable and environmentally friendly environment. These initiatives not only improve the quality of teaching, but also support mental and physical health. The entire complex is distinguished by energy-saving solutions - 115 kWp photovoltaic panels, a mechanical ventilation heat recovery system and VELUX Modular Skylights that make the facility environmentally friendly. The school management has planned a quiet zone on the second floor with comfortable sofas, calm music and calming tents, conducive to relaxation.
The new school is perfectly suited to the needs of the pupils. The C-shaped building surrounds a spacious courtyard with two playgrounds. The northern part of the site, meanwhile, is home to extensive sports facilities: a multi-purpose field for team games, a running track, a long jump and green areas. The second phase of construction will include a swimming pool with a usable area of 1,849 m², featuring a pool basin and auditorium.
Light and functionality: modular skylights in the auditorium of the new primary school
Velux Commercial, on a contract for Strabag, installed innovative modular skylights in the assembly hall, which provide the space with natural light and a modern user environment. A customized solution ensured the seamless integration of the light strands with the existing design. The modular design of the skylights allowed for a smooth installation and the acceptance process went smoothly.
The system comprises six identical roof openings in which four 5º light band modules are mounted each. The total area of the skylights is 45.6 m². The modules have been fitted with automatic decorative roller blinds, allowing the light intensity to be precisely regulated and increasing user comfort. The skylights are also distinguished by their impact resistance, making them not only a functional but also a safe solution.
Thanks to the modern skylights, the auditorium has become a space filled with natural light, offering the right conditions both for everyday learning and for organising various school events. The well-thought-out design has enhanced the functionality and aesthetics of the entire facility, contributing to improved user comfort.
