A design that brings students and teachers closer to nature with a panoramic view and maximum daylight in all classrooms
Nature surrounds Merlet College, and the school was designed in collaboration with teachers and students for a greater user experience.
The school is built alongside the river, an important feature that has shaped the design. Transparency and openness are key to the design of the self-sufficient building that is constructed as part of the charming landscape.
- The classrooms are grouped around a spacious atrium, the lively centre of the school. Six rows of VELUX ridgelights were installed in the atrium to let plenty of daylight into the central hall and the surrounding classrooms.
- In the reading room, 15 rows of VELUX longlights were installed to make the most of the natural daylight.
- The building was designed for self-sufficiency enabled by energy from the river and the sunlight
Nature and the indoor environment are unified in symbiosis through the design of the Merlet College, for the benefit of its everyday users, the students and teachers.
